Jules Buckley, Heritage Orchestra & Ghost-Note – The Breaks
Well, that’s funky. Although or because it’s HipHop meets Breaks meets full orchestra, that’s a stunning piece of work by Jules Buckley, co-founder of the and playing with the Heritage Orchestra here and percussion collective Ghost Note. Classics like “Apache”, “The Mexican”, “More Bounce To The Ounce”, “Give It Up Or Turn It Loose” and many more get a full blown ensemble treatment with appearances by Kamasi Washington, Vula and Mr Switch, Mattiel, Mr Talkbox etc etc augmenting the Heritage Orchestra and Ghost Note. Following a much acclaimed show on the BBC Prom in 2019, the members of this celebrated big band that had been assembled for the evening decided that this spectacular gig should be re-enacted at the studio and here we are now. “The Breaks” is of course a big nod to the roots of HipHop – with Funk, Soul, Latin and Disco laying the foundation for what was to come. Intricate, delightful and irrestistibly funky, this ist “The Breaks” – please enjoy!
